Wisconsin Restaurants Show Support for Veterans

Restaurants around the state are showing their support for veterans in their communities. To celebrate Veterans Day on Sunday, November 11th (observed Monday, November 12th), many restaurants are offering special deals for veterans or are holding fundraisers for veterans related charities.

A listing of some of the promotions being held by Wisconsin Restaurant Association member restaurants can be found at www.wirestaurant.org. Well over 120 restaurant locations around the state are listed. Veterans are encouraged to take advantage of the special promotions for them at these restaurants. The public is also encouraged to support the restaurants holding Veterans Day fundraisers.

Veterans Day promotions can also be found on the State of Wisconsin Department of Tourism website at www.travelwisconsin.com/wisconsin/veterans.

To honor their service to our country, Cinders will serve a free steak sandwich, fries and soda to veterans on Sunday, November 11th.

18 West Dining & Banquets – Delafield
Owners Tom and Lynn Saxe are participating with another local business, Pedlr's Inn Bed and Breakfast, in asking customers to send notes of appreciation for veterans to see when they dine. 18 West will also offer a dining promotion for veterans on Sunday, November 11th.

Fanny Hill – Eau Claire
The dinner theatre, Victorian inn, banquet facility and restaurant offers a free matinee performance with purchase of brunch on Sunday, November 11th for any veteran. Owner Dennis Heyde also has a signed an official Statement of Support for veterans, prominently displayed inside the establishment.

Owner Patrick Endter has committed to offer a FREE sandwich basket with military ID to veterans. There will be a framed sign in the front of the family-friendly, sports-themed restaurant to welcome veterans to the establishment.

Located in a historical building in the heart of downtown Janesville, the restaurant is offering a Burger Basket lunch special on Saturday, November 10th. The venue is offering the burger basket for $5.00 to anyone (regular price $7.25) that joins for lunch on that Saturday.

Christy’s Landing – Madison
The casual lakeside American bar and grill has plenty planned for Veterans Day. Owner Eric Christensen is hosting a Uniformed Services Honor Run on Saturday, November 10th at 10:00 am. The 4-mile run / 2-mile walk will begin and end at Christy’s Landing, with proceeds benefiting veterans and children of veterans. Signage will be present in the establishment and veterans may take advantage of a $1 bowl of chili on Sunday the 11th.

The fusion-style restaurant and martini bar will donate 10% of sales on Tuesday, November 13 to Freedom Honor Flight out of La Crosse, Wisconsin as they service veterans in the Menomonie area. There will also be a donation jar in the bar throughout the month of November with all donations being given to Freedom Honor Flight.

Every third Thursday of every month, the casual dining supper club with sports bar hosts a Veteran’s Appreciation night offering four dinner selections for just $6.99 and “Double Bubble” drinks to all veterans and active military. On the Veterans Day holiday, owners Tim and Terri Dietzel will hang special announcements saying “Thanks” to veterans around the establishment.

On November 11th, the fine dining establishment on Long Lake will be offering a FREE meal to all veterans in thanks for their generous service to our country. The restaurant will present patriotic themed drinks, special desserts and great food specials for the holiday and with celebratory flags and signs honoring vets for their service. And, owner Michelle Greener will also collect donations to help send care packages to soldiers deployed overseas to Kabul, Afganistan.

The casino is also hosting a flag raising program highlighting women veterans at 11 am on November 11, featuring the Ho-Chunk drum group, a gun salute and taps. Applebee's Neighborhood Grill Bar – 38 locations around Wisconsin
The casual dining restaurants offers a 10% military discount daily, but Applebee’s will say thank you with a free meal on Sunday, November 11th for veterans and active duty military. In addition, the restaurants plan to host fundraisers for the National Honor Flight's local Wisconsin hubs by selling $1 paper icons in the state’s 38 locations November 1-November 10. Signs, posters and other recognition for veterans will decorate the restaurants nearing the Veterans Day holiday.

Cracker Barrel Old Country Store – Germantown, Janesville, Kenosha, Lake Delton and Madison
The multi-unit brand is planning to donate 10% of sales (up to $25,000) on four specifically-identified patriotic products in the retail store, with proceeds going to Wounded Warrior Project. Signage will be available throughout the restaurant and guest will be provided with a specially-produced handout on “The History of Veterans Day.”

Famous Dave’s – Eau Claire and La Crosse
These locations will offer one free entree from a limited menu to any past or present member of the armed forces, with the proof of an ID or paperwork. The restaurants will also have flyers and posters celebrating vets starting on November 1.

Pizza Hut – Locations across Southern Wisconsin
On Monday, November 12 from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm, dine-in locations around southern Wisconsin will offer a free lunch buffet to all veterans with Military ID or other proof of service. Participating dine-in locations include: Baraboo, Beloit, Dodgeville, Janesville, Madison East Towne, Madison West Towne, Mauston, Monroe, Platteville, Portage, Reedsburg, Richland Center, Sauk City, Stoughton, Waunakee and Illinois locations in Belvidere and Rockford.

Prime Quarter Steak House – Green Bay, Janesville and Madison
The “Grill Your Own” steak house restaurants will offer a free top sirloin dinner to veterans with proof of service. Valid at the Green Bay, Janesville and Madison locations.

Texas Roadhouse – Locations across Wisconsin
The multi-unit brand will offer FREE lunch for veterans, including all active, retired or former U.S. military, on Monday, November 12. Every Texas Roadhouse restaurant will hang banners inside and outside to promote the free lunch event to honor the men and women of our armed forces.

UNO Chicago Grill – Madison and Menomonee Falls locations
Everyday UNO Chicago grill offers 10% off for all armed services active and veterans. On November 11th and 12th, active military and veterans may buy one entree get one free as a thank you for service. And, for the next two months, 10% of the proceeds on any take-out Andrew Zimmern pizza purchases will go to S.U.S. (Services for the Under Served).

Businesses can show their support for veterans by participating in the “Statement of Support” program administered by Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR). The ESGR Statement of Support program is an effort to gain and maintain employer backing for the guard and reserve by asking employers to sign a statement of support. The intent of the program is to encourage employers to consider hiring veterans and to be accommodating of employee participation in the military. Employers can get information about the financial benefits of hiring a veteran and can order a Statement of Support at www.esgr.mil.
